Madrid does things later, louder, and with more swagger than almost any capital in Europe — a city that treats midnight as the start of the evening. Its glory is the art: within a short walk sit three of the world's great museums, the Prado (Velázquez, Goya, the old masters), the Reina Sofía (Picasso's Guernica), and the Thyssen-Bornemisza, together forming an unmatched "golden triangle". Between them lie the grand Retiro park, the arcaded Plaza Mayor, and the buzzing hub of Puerta del Sol.

But Madrid's real character is in its tabernas and terraces: tapas crawls through La Latina, vermouth on a Sunday, rooftop drinks over the tiled skyline, and a nightlife that genuinely runs till dawn. There's no beach and no signature monument to rival Barcelona's Gaudí — and Madrileños will tell you that's the point. This is a city you experience by living its rhythm, not ticking off sights. Sunny, central, and endlessly sociable.
